Then, when the IP address changes, I'm able to do nslookup on the FQDN while ssh'd in to an AP and it returns the new address. I forward UDP 3478, TCP 8080, and TCP 8443 (we don't use the guest portal or speed test or anything) and have DDNS set up on the router at my apartment. Hers, where we both are currently, just has an ER-X and a couple UAPs. My apartment has all the serious network gear, like the server running the controller.

To go into more detail about my setup: My wife and I work in different states and I drive back and forth on weekends (at least, before both of us got shifted to remote for the pandemic, and hopefully by the time that ends I'll have a job in the same state again). Then it reconnects and mca-ctrl -t dump shows the up-to-date inform IP.ДЄm I missing something? Surely there's a way to use a DNS hostname that just works?

I end up having to SSH into each one and manually set the inform URL to something bogus and back to get it to reconnect to the controller.ДЇor example, when the IP changes, I run mca-ctrl -t dump and see. It's like they do one DNS lookup when you first set the inform URL and then use that IP address forever. Whenever the controller IP changes, all the APs (a mix of UAP-AC-LITE and UAP-AC-PRO) get disconnected. I figured if I use the hostname when I set the inform URL, everything would be hunky dory. I have my UniFi controller on a host whose IP address occasionally changes (maybe once or twice a year) but DNS always points to the correct address. People improve their skills and understanding through constructive feedback. Remember that the people posting here are real human beings possibly trying to learn and dive into the world of networking.
